Deconsolidate or do the easier thing
Has this happened to you? You pick up the phone to do something (say add a reminder for something or call someone or check for some item on Amazon) but after a couple of minutes you find yourself on WhatsApp, YouTube, Instagram or Twitter and not remembering the original purpose for which you picked up the phone. The problem is that we lose so much time(mindless scrolling) and mental energy(trying to remember what we forgot).
There are two options to get rid of that problem.
Option 1: “deconsolidate”.
By that, I mean, if you are going to take a photo use a camera, if you are going to take notes use a notebook, if you are going to buy clothes go to a shop, if you are going to read a book get a book or read in Kindle etc.
Option 2: Switch off all notifications.
This works too. Just by switching off all notifications you can now carry on with what you picked up your phone for. You are not distracted from the purpose that you got your phone out of the pocket.
Choice is yours.
