I am a strong believer in work-life balance, even for my kids. They can have all the fun they want - in its time if they do the work first. By work, I only mean some must-dos of the day that I am sure will help them when they get older. With children, setting expectations works well and also they need to remember the ‘work’ so that they can recall that easily and do it the next day.
Enter 4B’s - Brush, Bible, Bath and Breakfast. In the morning, if my 6yo is lazing around after waking up or reading a book before she does all of the 4B’s, I only need to ask “Have you finished your 4B’s?”. With a frown, she will get on with the morning routine, but once she has completed that, she is free to do anything else. She is happy and I am happy. Win-win.
